Why Black Churches in America?

The quest to start a black church emanated during the period of the slave trade. In a quest to own an African American church, the former slaves joined the American missionaries from the First Baptist Church and the German Baptist Church. They later moved to Baptist Hill in Rusk and Bagby streets to hold their services. It was at this point in 1868 that they ordained their first full-time preacher Jack Yates who transitioned the church into a new edifice. Subsequently, a red brick church was designed by the African American Richard Allen. And ever since, the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church became the first place of worship owned by African Americans in Houston, TX.

“I love the sermons and prayers from this ministry. This ministry has been a blessing to me, i wonder why i delayed in coming across it. May God continue to use His minister” Folosi Zulu’s testimony for the church near me in Houston – Omega Fire Ministries Houston.

Just like Folosi Zulu, these are the basic things you should consider when looking for a church near me in Houston; the dexterity of the word of God preached and the in-depth prayer through worship and the language of the Holy Spirit.

Why the word of God? Because it forms the basis for church doctrines, individual reproof, correction and instruction in righteousness see 2 Timothy 3:16.

On the other hand, prayer is a necessity as Jesus admonishes in Luke 18:1 by expounding on the need to be consistent and diligent in prayer using the parable of the persistent widow and the unjust judge. Scripturally, prayer is a communion that must be done with knowledge and understanding of the scripture otherwise, you will ask and not receive. James 4:3 when you ask, you do not receive because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures” praying with a wrong motive is one of the deterrents to receiving answers that is why it is important that you pray with knowledge. However, nobody grows in isolation as the bible admonishes us not to forsake the gathering of the brethren, therefore it becomes expedient that you look out for these in a church near me in Houston before you take the decision of making the church your family church.

So, to assist you to make a pick for a church near me in Houston, try to pay a visit to Omega Fire Ministries Houston. Apart from being a worded and praying church, the atmosphere you will get to find around there is that of a welcoming spirit. And a replica of what the scripture described as “continuing daily with one accord in the temple and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart” Acts 2:46

house of worship

A house of worship is a designed structure or space where believers of a church congregation come to offer incense of sacrifice in the form of worship and service to God.  A building constructed or used for this purpose is most times called a house of worship, popularly known as the church. Of course, you should know that the church is not just where we go but the church is who we are.

Though just as churches vary in denominations, so is a house of worship (physical structure) distinct in its feature. Depending on the place and time of establishment of the church. In some ways, the physical structure of a church reflects the belief system of the church.

HOW DISTINCT IS A HOUSE OF WORSHIP?

As mentioned earlier, the structure and setting of a house of worship can be duly affected by the location and the year of establishment.

You may be wondering, why location? In some cases, a house of worship is not permanently reserved for a particular congregation. As there are a lot of activities that occur in the buildings aside the regular Sunday service. Most of these structures are used for birthdays, wedding ceremonies, youth fellowship and so much more.

Regardless, it is the Christian belief that any structure can be a house of worship including homes of members. Which fulfils the bible verse “for where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am in the midst of them”

On another hand, the timing which a church building was raised can affect the aesthetical nature of a house of worship. In terms of décor, paintings, chairs etc. just as seen with the traditional church buildings and the contemporary buildings.

If you have visited a church near you recently, you will agree with me that the contemporary settings of a church differ from the conventional style of what you used to know.

Though the serve as a proposition for developers in setting up a new church building.

But the world is evolving and everything is changing as technology advances. People are moving from the regular style of building to what is more modern and acceptable to the public.

More of a reason why there are so many alternative church buildings. These houses of worship are alternative because they do not give you a clue that it’s a house of worship. Except there is a sign post mounted boldly at the front.

For example, buildings such as school halls, event halls, theatres or cinemas.

THE CONTEMPORARY HOUSE OF WORSHIP

VARITIES OF CHURCH BUILDING

Cathedral

This is usually for the Catholics, Anglican and orthodox denominations. Cathedral is a Greek word that means ‘bishop’s Throne’. It is great in size, with enough space for members to occupy. When you see or hear about a cathedral that is affiliated to a catholic or Anglican church, it is considered to be the largest church building in that region.

These buildings are mostly characterized by different statues, colorful paintings and icons that could possibly be a reflection of Jesus Christ and his cohorts.

Alternative Church

As the word implies, these are old buildings that are converted to a house of worship. The major reason for using such place is to save cost.

A practical example is the use of bus garage, an uncompleted building, an old event hall.

A HOUSE OF WORSHIP

Evangelical Church

The structure of an evangelical church can be easily identified by a Latin cross located at the top of the building. There are no materials like the statues or icons that could be used to represent Christ and all he stands for. This is in line with obeying the second commandment as stated in the bible.

It is quite important to note that, the church building is not a contributing factor to your spiritual growth.

Depending on the denomination you visit, there are several other church buildings all over the world.

For recommendations, pay a visit to Omega Fire Ministries Houston, Texas.

The church here is an alternative house of worship. With an atmosphere that is capable of transforming your life and their services are impactful. Find out about their church service here.
